Titles

Titling work. Should this be important, or even necessary? Are title used merely for ease of reference, or are they an important dimension to the work? Or can we distinguish between the two, if a title is required for the work to function, does it cease to be a reference. In this case, is a functioning title required to coexist with artistic title.
